2017, Lunar Outpost, a company I founded and lead, invented the Canary. Canary is a first-of-its-kind Environmental and Air Quality monitor that detects pollutants in the air and the surrounding environment. What makes the Canary special is the combination of its technological advancements (connect from anywhere and get actionable, reliable data), size (smaller than a shoebox), and cost (tens of thousands of dollars less than traditional air quality equipment).
The Canary detects, analyzes, and reports on pollutants including methane, CO2, CO, H2S, SO2, cancer causing chemicals, and many more substances and environmental factors. This allows the operators in oil and gas, chemical processing, steel manufacturing, rubber manufacturing, regulators and others, the data necessary to take action to stop pollutant leaks at the source.
Canary Overview
The Canary is a first of it's kind monitor providing the accuracy and reliable of equipment that takes up a whole shed while being 1/100th the cost and size. When the Canary was introduced to the market, it changed the entire industry. The Canary was first with City and County of Denver which we helped win the National Bloomber Mayor's Challenge to improve air quality for school age children. The project gained international press and led to the creation of Denver's Love My Air Program. Within 3 years every major sensor manufacturer was trying to recreate the success that Lunar Outpost saw with the Canary program.
Air Quality and Environmental Health is at the front of everyone's mind and for good reason. Poor air quality is one of the leading causes of death around the world, causing trillions of dollars of economic impact. The air we breathe can now be better understood and we can better plan actions to improve our Environmental Health because of the data Canary (and sensors who followed our lead) now collect.
As a quick example of how Canary is driving positive impact today; the Canary has analyzed over 35+ Billion unique data points and helped stop tens of thousands of tons of Methane leaking into the air. This is one conservative data point for one pollutant. There are thousands of Canary deployed in over 35 states and 12 countries around the World.
Bottom Line: The Canary system led a revolution in air quality and environmental monitoring that has changed the way humanity views the world around them. The entire industry has now followed the Canary lead which will lead to better, more actionable data so the people who utilize the technology can help solve the critical problem of Air Quality and Environmental Health.
The Canary program is scaling rapidly in the United States and Europe. Expansion further into other international markets is next to continue bringing better air quality across the globe.
